Another steamship,  "Promontory" launched 1902 to assist in the construction of the Lucin tressle.

A load of the piles used in construction of the Lucin Cutoff.  Often, it took two of these 150 foot poles lashed together to penetrate the lake bottom ooze and reach a solid base. In 1996, these piles were pulled from the lake and salvaged as lumber.

Driving the last piling in the Lucin Cutoff Railroad Trestle, 1903.  The first of 28,250 piles was driven August 2, 1902, in lengths of 100 to 150 feet.
A DC-3 which crashed into the lake Saturday, October 5, 1935 and recovered February 27, 1936.  All three crewmen were killed.
One of the tugs used to drag the lake in the recovery of the crashed DC-3.  Many Aircraft have crashed into the lake over the years.

A view of the South Shore taken at the beginning of construction of Interstate 80.  You can see Sunset Beach Resort (built 1934) at Fritch Island, the boat harbor, and at the far right, Saltair.  Probably between 1959 and 1964, the boat marina burned in 1964.

Silver Sands Marina late 1970's.  The marina was rebuilt on the site of the original rock harbor.  The former structure's improvements had burned in 1964.
